CHIPART

FROM CHIPS TO PARTS: Circularity of Ti scrap from machining to additive manufacturing
Programme: The CHIPART project is co-funded by the European Union's LIFE Programme and the European Defence Agency, within the framework of the Incubation Forum for the Circular Economy in European Defence (IF CEED). Grant agreement number: 04-24.ISE.CP.140 – CHIPART
Objective: Chipart aims to realise a proof of concept, demonstrating the valorisation of Ti scrap from machining into high added value products by additive manufacturing in simple and low energy-consuming steps. In doing so, the project results will provide the basis of a disruptive closed loop recycling approach, paving the way for safe use of secondary materials in defence applications.
Specific objectives:
- To optimize the titanium recycling process from Ti chips obtained by removal-based processes to powder
- To produce additive manufacturing parts using non-spherical powder, adapting parameters for two different AM technologies (DED and LPBF) to compare results, optimize processes, and characterize samples.
-To identify an economically viable solution for titanium recycling, considering costs, part quality, and the feasibility of powder recycling.
