Fostering circularity in European defence: Idonial will host, on 22 and 23 March, experts’ meetings under the “Incubation Forum for Circular Economy in European Defence” (IF CEED)

How to improve Additive Manufacturing (AM, commonly known as 3D-printing) and Spare Parts Management for enhanced circularity in defence applications?

The interactive sessions, hosted on the premises of IDONIAL Technology center in Gijon, will allow participants from Ministries of Defence, industry, research, and technology organisations as well as academia to exchange views on how AM technologies and management of spare parts can be improved to contribute to the objectives of circular economy.

Within IF CEED, thematic working groups (“Project Circles”) aim at addressing both technological and organizational aspects in nine areas, representing key building blocks to achieve the forum’s goal and trigger transnational initiatives and projects through concrete roadmaps, partnerships, and consortia.  Discussion will cover topics such as design optimisation, recycling and use of secondary materials, decentralised manufacturing, qualification protocols and common pooling of parts.

Stimulating a productive dialogue on these themes is essential towards encouraging and facilitating innovation in technologies, processes and logistics which can contribute to improving the environmental impact of the defence sector as well as operational efficiency.
