IDONIAL participates as a partner in the Erasmus+ project “grAceful AM – Generating an AI-Enhanced Learning Platform to Unlock Professional Careers and Inspection Excellence in Additive Manufacturing”, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening professional qualification in the field of Additive Manufacturing (AM) through the development of advanced AI-based training tools.

The growing industrial deployment of AM technologies in sectors such as aeronautics, energy, automotive and defence is generating sustained demand for highly qualified technical profiles. However, technological evolution—particularly in advanced processes such as Directed Energy Deposition (DED) and Powder Bed Fusion (PBF)—is outpacing the adaptability of traditional training systems. In this context, grAceful AM proposes an innovative approach that integrates digitalisation, personalised learning pathways and alignment with industrial standards and European qualification frameworks.

The grAceful AM project focuses on:

  • Development of an AI-based intelligent training platform capable of analysing the user’s competency level and generating personalised and adaptive learning pathways.
  • Technical specialisation in advanced Additive Manufacturing processes, with emphasis on Directed Energy Deposition (DED) and Powder Bed Fusion (PBF), covering technological fundamentals, critical process parameters and industrial optimisation.
  • Curriculum design aligned with European qualification frameworks and international standards, facilitating connection with professional certification schemes in AM.
  • Integration of advanced digital competences, including process data analysis and monitoring in digitalised production environments.
  • Implementation of continuous assessment and performance tracking tools, enabling measurement of competency progression and dynamic adaptation of training content.

IDONIAL will contribute its expertise in advanced manufacturing, industrial innovation and technology transfer, supporting the definition of key technical competences, the development of specialised content in DED and PBF processes, and the industrial validation of training materials. Its participation ensures that project outcomes are fully aligned with the real needs of the European industrial ecosystem.

The project consortium is composed of eight European entities with complementary profiles in technology, training and standardisation:

  • FAN3D
  • CESOL
  • LAK – LZH Laser Akademie GmbH
  • Fundación IDONIAL
  • Instituto Politécnico de Leiria
  • University of Patras
  • Pi Private Company / Pi-Tech
  • EWF

This multidisciplinary structure combines industrial expertise, technological development, technical training and European standardisation in the fields of welding and Additive Manufacturing.

Participation in grAceful AM further strengthens IDONIAL’s consolidated track record within the Erasmus+ programme, having previously contributed to initiatives such as CLLAIM, SING for GREEN, OCEAN, AREOLA and AILEEM—projects focused on advanced skills development, industrial sustainability and technological capacity building in strategic sectors.

Through this new initiative, IDONIAL continues to reinforce its commitment to innovation in technical education, advanced manufacturing and the development of the International Additive Manufacturing Qualification System (IAMQS), contributing to the consolidation of qualification standards and excellence within the sector.
